THE DUEL – or:
“Defence of the viola da gamba against the presumption of the violoncello”

Based on the historical treatise published in 1740 by Hubert Le Blanc, a lawyer and amateur violist, our concert programme offers the best and most exquisite music that the French High Baroque period produced for both string instruments. Soloistically and in chamber music, the old aristocratic viola da gamba and the freshly emerging cello will vie for the audience’s favour, just as they did back then. Any means will do: breathtaking virtuosity and the sweetest flattery are intended to beguile the ears and hearts of the audience!
